Our first summer of work-camping (workamping) in 2019 was in West Yellowstone, Montana at Pete’s Rocky Mountain Pizza and Pasta. We worked from May to October and watched the town explode as it is the host to the horde of tourists entering Yellowstone National Park through the west entrance.
Thanks to Workamper News we were contacted by the owners of Pete’s when they found our resume posted for summer work. The owners Jeff and Karen offered us an interview for positions as cooks. At first, we politely declined because although we have both worked in restaurants, we had no experience as cooks. “No problem, we will train you,” Jeff told us, and so our journey began!
Although hiring work-campers was new to Pete’s Pizza, the process went smoothly, communication was excellent and the site, hours and pay were all as promised. We took a chance on each other. They based their decision on our resume and conversations and we did our homework on the restaurant and location. We not only came out of the summer with new skills as a pizza and line cook, but we also made new friends and were able to explore another beautiful part of our country.
